Edale Skyline Challenge
The Edale Skyline Challenge is a demanding but rewarding long-distance hike that circles the high ground around the Edale valley. Starting and finishing in the village of Edale (or Hope), the route covers roughly 21 miles with significant ascent, linking together some of the Peak District’s most well-known hills and ridges. It is typically completed in a long day and suits experienced hikers looking for a serious challenge.
The route’s appeal comes from its varied terrain and constant views. Steep climbs lead onto Kinder Scout, followed by exposed ridges such as Mam Tor and Lose Hill, with wide panoramas across Edale and into the Hope Valley. The sense of walking the full rim of the valley gives the hike a clear pan aroma throughout the day and crosses the UK’s first national trail, the Pennine Way.
